This was a short friends to lovers novella, the story of Tessa and Caleb. They've been best friends since they were children, but Caleb has had an unrequited crush on Tessa while she's never seen him as anything other than a friend. She's engaged to another man, but when she starts receiving anonymous suggestive notes, it becomes clear to her that he's not the man for her - but will Caleb be able to convince her that he is? Or will the revelation that he's the sender behind the anonymous notes push her away?This was a fun and sexy story! I thought both characters were well developed despite the brevity of the story, with enough of their background to make it clear that they have a deep and abiding friendship. Caleb is taking a risk, but it's the only way he knows to shake Tessa out of her complacency and made her realize that she's not going to be happy with this other man. When she starts to see Caleb as he wants her to see him, it leads to some sexy scenes between them. Torn between him and her mystery admirer, Tessa has to make a choice - one she soon finds out isn't a real choice at all. The ending is a bit abrupt but fits the story. 4 stars.

Shiloh Walker writes incredible romantic suspense, so I knew that she had the capacity to write amazing erotic works. Her smooth seductive style is perfect for that, and this story didn’t let me down. The characters were well-developed and I came to care for them quickly; as their relationship changed from friendship to lovers, the excitement was palpable and their emotional intimacy was real and heartfelt.
Tessa has always had her best friend Caleb in her life. She counts on him to always be there, she just doesn’t “see” him. So when she starts receiving sexy, intimate notes from a secret admirer right after she gets engaged, she confides in him about them. He’s very encouraging but also uses the opportunity to share in the admirer’s doubts about Tyson being the right one for her. Tyson’s reaction is very different–he’s threatened and wants her to call the cops. But she’s intrigued and flattered because the notes and gifts make her feel seduced and desired…something Tyson has never done. What if she met this man and realized he was the one?
Caleb’s been in love with Tessa forever and she’s always refused to see it. Asking her out has never worked, so in a last ditch effort to get her attention, he started sending her these anonymous gifts and letters to see if he could stop her from marrying the wrong man. He knows they belong together–if only he can get her to really look at him. With the stakes being so high, though, he’s terrified of what might happen if she blows him off. He could lose her friendship and never see her again. And what’s with him starting to get jealous of her feelings towards the secret admirer? It’s him, right? Why is it bothering him so much?
Even though it’s a pretty standard trope, in Shiloh’s hands it’s an erotically sexy tale of friends-to-lovers done right. No angsty override, no TSTL alpha-holes, just hot and steamy with a neat little twist that really brings it home, especially for Caleb. Loved the rewrite, Shiloh, can’t wait to read more of your stuff! Always a great read when I see your name on the title page. Thanks!
I really enjoy Shiloh Walker, because she is one lady who definitely knows how to write a hot scene that has you reaching for a fan. I don't know that I've read any of her full-length novels actually, think it might just be her novellas thus far. Compared to some of her others, this one was shorter, and I have to agree with others, who found the ending somewhat abrupt (might be putting it lightly); it either needed a more drawn-out wrap-up or an epilogue, because as it is, it kind of just seems to cut-off, almost as if some text might be missing.
That being said, I still really enjoyed the story. It's similar to a lot of the Walker plot lines one of the characters has secretly been in love with the other for years, while that person just thinks they're both friends (though may have felt some attraction at times); the heroines have an extremely high rate of virginity, as well, regardless of whether they've had boyfriends or fiances in the past (go figure lol). Although she kind of uses the same plot sketch repeatedly, it doesn't seem to bother me lol. Part of that is probably because they're novellas, and the challenge for me with novellas is usually that I find the whole thing hard to believe, given the constrained space; when you're starting with two friends who are already friends/secretly in love with one another though, you skip that whole challenge and so it's more of a setup for success with me.
I thought Caleb was sweet and his secret love for Tessa was cute and intense. He kind of puts himself in a bind, when he creates this alternate persona online, because then he's trying to seduce Tessa on two fronts, that end up seeming to Tessa as if they're in competition with one another, because she doesn't know they're both Caleb. All ends up well of course (I know, you're shocked!), but as mentioned previously, the ending did feel too abrupt and should have been reworked. Overall, a quick, fun and sexy read.
Recommendations. Some of the other Shiloh Walker novellas I like and recommend are ONE OF THE GUYS (probably my fav), THE VIRGIN'S NIGHT OUT, and WICKED WILD FANTASIES.

Wow, loved this short, romantic, hot, sexy, exciting story. Tessa was engaged to be married, yet she was getting messages, notes from a secret admirer that left her yearning for more, and she felt like her fiancé was making all the choices for the wedding, their life for her. Cute, intertaining, enlightening, humor and romantic story, will draw you to want to read more, and see where Tessa's story leads❤️.
